Animals Pt. 2

From last week:

I like to draw tall things. For some reason. And I was looking forward to the Project Runway finale that weekend... umm.

And then I watched the documentary New York Doll, which was great. And while I was watching, I thought "Hey David Johansen, you look like a creepy monkey." So there you go.

And the last is our family cat, Zorro, who is afraid of the outdoors... though I don't think has ever actually ventured into that great unknown. But I'm pretty sure he believe he's some sort of superhero anyways...

Animals

Weekly character design update: animals!

Toribio the Walrus (for Katherine)

Birds

And for my mom...

Fun fact: My mom owns 10... 11? tortoises. She is known to many as the "Turtle Lady" and has powers rather like those of the horse whisperer, except with, well, tortoises. They tortoises have their own little pen in the backyard in warm weather, and take up residence in the laundry room in winter. The band includes several African Leopard tortoises, a Russian, and Red-Foot, and a giant sulcata named Boomer. Quite a diverse group.

One day I will color things. One day.

Robin Hood

The plein-air painting is form landscape class down at Provo river... we've been working on painting trees (yay!). For the illustration I chose to convert the scene to scene to sherwood forest... Because Robin Hood is my favorite.

Take Two

A hero and a villain return.... now with more personality.

Heroes and Villains

Assignment: create four heroes, four villains, male and female, stereotypical and non-stereotypical. Some of these I like. Some not so much. The spoils of procrastination. I did attempt to do some different styles though. That was fun.

Heroes:

Villains:

(Umm... I down the "stereotypical" villains. I just really don't like them. sorry.)

But all that really matters is now I can get some dang sleep.

Reflection

As part of my figure drawing midterm I had to do a self-portrait:

And then in character design we had to design ourself as five different personalities... We were told to focus on getting the personality across more than the likeness. Which is excuse as to why they don't really look like me. The personalities were: Silent Leader, Fancy Free, Quiet Killer, Easily Irritated, and Vain.

So. Lots of mirror time.

On another note... My favorite TV shows these days are So You Think You Can Dance and Project Runway. An interesting side effect of watching too much reality TV... I almost expect to walk into a class one day and have my professors stand us up in a straight line, tell someone to step forward, and then with a parting zinger, kick them out out of the classroom...

Which... kind of makes me work harder.
